60’s Baby

To hell with
the internet.
TikTok, Snapchat,
Facebook -
this app, that app

Taking a break
from digital
landscape
focusing on me
and that tree
and those bees
buzzing
around
ever so free

Sittin under a tree
marveling at God's
bed of moss
underneath
its canopy

And how a rainbow 🌈
takes form
behind the darkness
of a storm
so beautiful
so strong
like lightening
transformed
into a poem
it’s backdrop
hidden beneath
a trail of tears
it's beauty quieting
my childhood fears

Me and Aunt Terreé
buying fringe purses
at a Brooklyn
thrift store
for 50 cents
enjoying each other
and feeling content

Riding the shoulders
of my Dad
on a NY beach
called "Jones"
collecting seashells
while thinking up poems
drawing peace signs
in the sand
building castles
and getting a tan

Visits with Grandma in Flint
making stained glass
by hand
she loved to hear me sing
she was my biggest fan
I'll never forget
all the fun times
we spent
and when we
weren't together
all the letters she sent
Sitting side by side
in green suede recliners
eating frozen tv dinners
and pondering on life

Going to Nina's
for Thanksgivings
gathering with family
and admiring her paintings

Me singing
"Love will keep us together"
brother Jay on bongos
beat boxing
Both of us hoping
that love
would somehow
keep us together
thru the trials
and tribulations
we constantly weathered

Listening to Sly Stone's
 "Que Sera Sera"
wondering if
whatever
was going to be,
would be
Knowing that
the future
wasn’t ours to see
but hoping one day
my sadness
would fly away
and allow me
to be free
allow me
to be me

John Lennon
"Imagining"
all the people
loving on one another
Everyone united
brother, sister,
lover

Take me back
to then
when life was
mellow
Where we had
golden sand
Take me back
I can't
continue
With this fucked up
world we're in

Thank you for reading

Wishing you all the Love and all the Peace xo
